Driveline Vibration
A shudder that showed up right after you lifted
If the vibration started the week you installed a lift, the driveshaft isn't failing — its operating angle changed. Lifting the rear rotates the pinion and moves the carrier bearing out of position, and the driveshaft now runs at an angle it was never designed for.
How to narrow it down
A vibration that changes with road speed but not engine speed is driveline. One that appears under throttle and disappears when you coast points at pinion angle. A shudder felt through the floor around 45–65 mph is the classic carrier bearing complaint.
The fix
Drop the carrier bearing by the amount that matches your rear lift, and correct pinion angle with a driveline spacer. On a lifted 4WD, a front differential drop does the same job for CV angle up front.
